ABOUT THE TESTS AND REPORT
Psychoeducational Solutions of Florida uses the latest version of the Wechsler Intelligence Scales for Children. The WISC-IV is one of the most reliable and valid IQ testing instruments available. It is the most widely used measure of IQ for school placement. The WISC-IV provides scores that represent intellectual functioning in four specified cognitive domains: Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Reasoning, Processing Speed and Working Memory. The WISC-IV also provides a Full Scale IQ score measuring general intellectual ability. The WIAT-II (Wechsler Individual Achievement Test) is a comprehensive measurement tool useful for achievement skills assessment, learning disability diagnosis, special education placement, curriculum planning, and clinical appraisal for preschool and school aged children. For students 16 years and older, the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-III) is used in conjunction with the WIAT-II to determine specific learning problems and other cognitive weaknesses.
Many parents don't know what to do once they have test results in hand. If a diagnosis is made (giftedness, specific learning disorders, ADHD, etc...) it is important to take the report as soon as possible to the school to begin the process of providing your child with the necessary services he or she needs. If your child is diagnosed, follow the recommendations provided in the report and speak with your school counselor to find out about the next steps, including required paperwork to begin this process.
