Giftedness

Updated: February 2015

Gifted children are probably one of the most underserved populations in schools today. Ironically, many gifted students, especially those who are not challenged, are frequently misdiagnosed as having other problems such as ADHD, underachievement and other emotional/behavioral disturbances. Research has shown that gifted children are more at-risk for adjustment problems, including emotional and social, than their non-gifted peers. But not all gifted children face problems such as these. Many connect with adults intellectually and expect to be treated with respect, like an adult. These children have an ability to learn and retain new information at a much faster rate than peers of their same age. Some have multiple interests and take on various hobbies such as music, art, chess, math and science.  In any case, participation in an advanced/gifted program that challenges the student academically is an opportunity to further develop his abilities. IQ Testing for giftedness

Testing to qualify for the Academically Gifted Program involves an IQ test (such as the Wechsler Scales of Intelligence)  to determine if the student is truly intellectually gifted. An IQ score of 130 or more, places a student in the gifted classification, which is the primary criteria for participation of the program in the state of Florida.  Child Testing offers at-home assessments, ensuring better chances for the student to perform well (by reducing testing anxiety).  Parents will receive a comprehensive, customized and detailed report describing your child's strengths and weaknesses, not just a generic computer print out. Child Testing serves all Florida counties and cities, including: the entire Tampa Bay area, Orlando, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Panama City, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm, Boca Raton and many more. Please call for more details.
